I grew up sewing clothes for my dolls. And in a way, I'm still doing just that. mimi & lala grew from a need for attractive footwear, that had truely soft and flexible soles, for my new little girl. My shoes and boots are all handmade from 100% cotton and eco-felt so as to not bind little feet as they grow and develop. These are the next best thing to bare feet and they are pretty enough to wear with any outfit! As my daughter grew, so did the shoes, incorporating grip soles when she learned to walk, and adding larger sizes. Now that she is talking up a storm, she inspires me to keep creating items she loves - from hair accessories and pretty dresses that compliment her shoes, to taggy blankets to snuggle with at nap time. You can be sure that every mimi & lala item is one of my daughter's favorite things!

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Lingbird

I am a physical therapist by profession, but a photographer by passion.  I love to take photos.  It calms me and grounds me.  When lift gets chaotic, my camera balances me and reminds me to see the things for their simple beauty.

Photography is a hobby, that in the past year has been further fueled by Instagram and editing apps on my  iPhone.  All photos are taken by me, using my Nikon D60 or iPhone, and then edited on my iPhone.

Spring Handmade Market Vendor Profile: Rebecca King Design Studio

I have been working as a fashion designer for the past 8 years and have been doing it full time for the past 4 years. I create semi casual clothing, mostly day dresses some evening wear, coats and sweaters. My most common inspiration is tailoring, military, and vintage detailing. I design draft and sew all of my own work with some help in the sewing end of things as of lately since I have a three month old baby. I built my business in Saskatoon and still hold a strong following there. We also plan on moving back in the somewhat near future so I like to keep a presence there.

Opening this Friday @ Void Gallery

 

From March 7th - 31st, void is showing mixed media paintings by Jocelyn Pidskalny and watercolours by Neema Vaghela. Jocelyn's paintings are abstract, while Neema's watercolours depict her childhood home of Ahmadabad, India, seeking to both evoke the mystic feeling with which India was portrayed in the past and show contemporary life there. The reception will be this Friday, March 15th, from 7 - 9 pm.

A Crafty Little Get-Together

oh Hello!

We're changing things up a bit with the next Flock and Gather craft night. Save the date for next Thursday, the 14th, when we'll have an informal get-together at the Broadway Roastery on 8th street. We won't have a supplied craft, so please being something portable that you are working on - or you can even just come and chat with some other friendly folks. We're hoping you'll be able to spot us by all the crafty bits everyone will bring. Of course, drinks and snacks are available for purchase at the Roastery. Hope you can make it!
