Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Remnant

Located in the city of Saskatoon, in the middle of the prairies, we really dig steel, adore design and love people.  Using these passions we provide custom design and steel cutting. Utilizing recycled metals whenever possible, we specialize in house address numbers, signs, modern decor and more.

Remnant is a creative collaboration between friends Naomi Ziolkowski and Elizabeth Loeppky; two prairie girls at heart, our love of designing and creating led us to start Remnant.  We work to find the perfect designs, then cut and fabricate steel that people can love as their own.

Craft night pictures!

Our most recent Flock and Gather craft night was such a great time - lots of new faces and old friends came to make gift cards, garlands, and washi tape. All the glitter, stamps, fancy tapes, and lovely papers made it easy to be inspired. Thanks to everyone who came out for the pre-Christmas fun, and thanks to the Mendel for allowing us to use your space once again!

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: The Maker of it All

She creates sewn accessories, home decor, and soft sculptures from new and vintage fabrics. In addition to creating her "Maker of it All" line, Stephanie works part-time at the Saskatchewan Craft Council as an Exhibitions and Education Coordinator. She finds great inspiration in Saskatchewan's growing craft community, and hopes that her handmade and one-of-a-kind works can bring a little bit of enjoyment to someone's day.

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Quirks & Twists Jewelry

I am a local independent artist who creates unique handcrafted jewelry using reclaimed vintage pieces, metals, gemstones, glass and whatever else comes my way.

I have always been drawn to handmade art; I’ve been crafting and making things since childhood – one of my earliest memories is painting with my grandma. I am self-taught and have been designing and making jewelry since 2003. I started with the basics and quickly discovered my love for beads, beads and more beads! My styles have changed over the years and I am now primarily working with vintage pieces which I combine with new materials resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces.

Winter Wonder Artisan Profile: Andronyk Jewelry

I just recently moved to Saskatchewan from Vancouver. Having just completed schooling as a Goldsmith, I am now working on many projects and look forward to the winter where I can work on my newest collection. I use materials of the highest quality, and recycle metals when I can. For more information on my work, please visit my website at www.andronyk.com

Got extra craft supplies you could spare?

We received the follow call for craft supplies. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Hi Friends!
I work for a non-profit organization, International Women of Saskatoon. We work with immigrants and refugees and our focus is on helping women. Recently we haven't been getting any funding for women's programs so we're relying on donations and volunteers to run our Just4Women series. We're trying to start

a Craft N' Chat class where women can come and do crafts, meet other women and share their stories.
We need some volunteers for this program and also a donation of craft supplies. If anyone is doing a purge of crafting materials, we would be happy to take it off your hands.

Some of the things we need:

Knitting Needles
Fabric and Felt
Beads
Hemp or other (for bracelets)
Paint and Brushes
Drawing paper or sketchbooks

Any other craft supplies are welcome, as we are trying to make this an ongoing class

We also have a Facebook page under our organization's name if you want to look at some of the things we've been doing.

Thanks a bunch!

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Something from Nothing

Something From Nothing began as a business based on circumstances, but soon transformed into one based on a lifestyle. Local artisan, Karen Boldt, has always lived a life of frugality, so it is only natural that her creative business took on this same persona. Upon entering several thrift stores in the area, she recognized an abundance of old wool sweaters and the need to find a new use for them. In 2009, she began her venture crafting these cast offs into soft and very warm mittens. These well-loved hand warmers for prairie winters soon made their debut at many craft and trade shows in the Saskatoon area and are now available online at www.sfnothing.etsy.com. Something From Nothing Mittens are the perfect combination of eco-friendly materials with a trendy flair making great gifts for yourself or your shivering friends and relatives.

Can you feel the excitement?

As we are inching closer and closer to one of the most anticipated events of the holiday season - Winter Wonders Handmade Market of course - you should soon be spotting our lovely posters out on the streets and in shops. The poster was designed by our own Shauna Buck and each poster was lovingly screen printed by Walden Sweet. They are gorgeous to say the least.

This sale we will also be having a flock and gather merchandise table. All funds going 100% towards bringing you more amazing crafty fun events. These will be limited edition pieces, cups and tote bags. They won't last long so come early and help support flock and gather in their quest to serve up some art and craft fun in the new year.

Please think about the importance of shopping local and supporting independent artists.
If you have to buy this Christmas why not buy handmade?
