Vendor Profile: Something from Nothing

Hello! I and my husband live in the heart of the Canadian prairie so we understand cold weather and the need to keep fingers toasty warm! We have four grown daughters, so I also understand the need for mittens that are functional but also feel comfortable and look good. That is how this business began seven years ago. All my mittens are made from thrifted wool sweaters that have been felted which results in them being super warm. They are also fully lined with 100% new cotton flannel thus your hands won't get itchy! I and my assistant, Joy hand make each and every pair in four different sizes from extra small to large and even a few on a string for your baby! I love that old sweaters can take on new life in this way and also love hearing your stories of how my mittens are keeping your family warm. Take a look at what I'm doing on my Instagram account @somethingfromnothingmittens or on my Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/somethingfromnothingmittens/

Vendor Profile: Something from Nothing

My name is Karen Boldt and Something from Nothing began in 2009 as a need to keep my daughter's hands warm yet stylish at the same time here on the cold Saskatchewan prairie. I love the idea of creating something beautiful from something used or cast off and finding new uses for it. Thus began my venture of creating these warm and cozy hand warmers. My mittens are recycled from wool sweaters found in thrift stores and are fully lined with cotton flannel so your hands don't come in contact with anything itchy, yet receive the benefit of the warmth of natural wool fiber. They come in four different sizes for adults as well as itty bitty ones on a string for your favourite baby, each pair hand made and each pair unique.

My selection is constantly changing and because of the nature of wool sweaters each having a different amount of stretch, I would recommend coming and meeting me at one of my sales and trying them out for yourself. You can follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see where I'll be showing my mittens next!

vendor profile: Something from Nothing

Something From Nothing began as a business based on circumstances, but soon transformed into one based on a lifestyle. Local artisan, Karen Boldt, has always lived a life of frugality, so it is only natural that her creative business took on this same persona. Upon entering several thrift stores in the area, she recognized an abundance of old wool sweaters and the need to find a new use for them. In 2009, she began her venture crafting these cast offs into soft and very warm mittens. These well-loved hand warmers for prairie winters soon made their debut at many trade shows in the area and because of their popularity, are now being made available to anyone with a mailing address through her Etsy shop! Something From Nothing mittens, available in sizes baby, children, and adult small, medium and large, are the perfect combination of eco-friendly materials with a trendy flair. They make great gifts for your shivering friends and relatives.
