The Dark Arts of Gabrielle Rose only officially began in early 2015 when I decided to exhibit my work for the first time and sell at the Fringe festival. I chose a name that would encompass the essence of my creations, as well as draw attention to what I do. Since then, I've been working to create a wide variety of artwork that is very different from what I've seen in Saskatoon's local art scene. My art is inspired by my love for horror, anatomy, the supernatural, folklore and occult subject matter. I strive to create really unique pieces that stand out and do so through a variety of mediums including ink illustration, acrylic painting, clay sculpture and pencil drawings. A recent graduate from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, I am a painter that enjoys experimenting with other mediums, such as silk screening and pottery. Growing up in rural Saskatchewan, the prairie landscape inspires me to work with bold, chromatic colour. My prints and chicken paintings allow me to show my sense of humour and have fun experimenting with new themes and materials. I silk screen bags, t-shirts, and have made prints and postcards from my work so that art can be shown everywhere!

Vendor Profile: Brittney Tough

Brittney Tough, elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC), is known for her vibrant paintings depicting vintage textiles, patchwork quilts and old objects.  She is an international award winning artist who has exhibited work across Canada and the US.  Her work is published in Splash 16: Exploring Textures, North Light Books hardcover of the best in contemporary watercolour.  Britney has also received the Sam Black Award of Excellence, and Curry's: Da Vinci Co. Award from the CSPWC.  Britney has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Alberta College of Art and Design and continues to develop her painting practice in Calgary, AB.

vendor profile: Jewel Buhay Original Art

Originally a mixed media artist, I have been painting in alcohol ink for over 2 years now. I really enjoy the vibrant colors and the way they blend together to create unique and amazing works of art, both in abstract and representational form. I paint on ceramic tiles and plastic paper (Yupo). Alcohol ink is new as a fine art medium, and I was hooked as soon as I tried it. I have been showing my work in art shows in and around Saskatoon for about 10 years and have been teaching alcohol ink workshops for the last 2 years. I love creating art, more specifically I love painting and drawing. I have been concentrating on this passion for the past five years which is when my youngest son entered school full-time and I suddenly found more hours available in my day. I love my boys, but let me say that having a bit more time to focus on my creative side really makes me happy! Eventually I was inspired to paint small 6x6" boards by the "Daily Painters" I discovered online. Although I don't paint daily, I have completed two projects where I painted thirty little paintings in thirty days. It is these small works that you will see at the Winter Wonders Market.

Brittney Lintick has exhibited work in both Canada and the US, and received the Sam Black Award of Excellence from the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) in 2007. Brittney has been an art instructor for several programs including Studio C, and Yellowknife Watercolour Society. She currently works as a Coordinator for a program called ArtRecruits. Brittney paints mostly with watercolour and enjoys creating images that are inspired by her travels and people in her life. She explores relationships as a theme and continues to develop her painting practice in Calgary, Alberta.

When winter begins to lose its icy grip and spring is imminent, who doesn't begin to dream of sun-soaked days spent on the sand, with nothing but a thin layer of spandex keeping things appropriate? In light of this, my first collection of goods, called "Beach Babes", is inspired by vintage pin-ups and mid century photos of your hot aunt. This collection is comprised of a sampling of my skills and interests, and will feature small, affordable paintings on handmade ready-to-hang wooden boxes, and driftwood-inspired bread boards for your kitchen.

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Nicki Ault

I have an intense love for the natural world - landscapes untouched by human presence, specifically the Boreal forest, the larger than life skies and the wild grasslands of Saskatchewan. I am a proud prairie girl and I love to paint, both in my studio space at St. George Artists' Studio and en plein air, immersed in the landscape I love. Although I aim to be representational, my goal is not precise realism, but rather to create a collection of marks that express how I see and feel the subject in that moment. I am increasingly interested in patterns, rhythm and light and I whole-heartedly embrace colour as a source of joy in my work.
