Vendor Profile: Burntwood Makery
I've always loved making things, says joel kroeker, proprietor of burntwood makery, "whether it's bread, toques, songs, or spoons." Growing up the oldest of four imaginative & energetic brothers, joel was always encouraged to express that creativity. Kroeker works at The Night Oven Bakery in Saskatoon & lives in the City Park area with his partner, Heather, & their ten-month-old daughter, Rehema. Saskatchewan-based burntwood makery has, for the last four years, been mainly focussing on crafting wooden utensils for cooking and eating. Burntwood utensils are hand-shaped from reclaimed and found woods of North American origin. The one-of-kind pyrographic designs and sculptural aspects of each piece are intended to celebrate and elevate the joy of using these everyday tools. This spring, in addition to offering his popular spoons & utensils, burntwood makery will be branching out into the realms of home & garden decor. Wooden buntings & decorative—& practical!—garden row labels will be available to brighten up your home & yard.
