Springtime Handmade Market Vendor Profile: Burntwood Makery

Joel Kroeker wears many hats, many of them he made himself, most of them knitted. (But that's another story for another time.) One of those hats is spoon carver. (It's an orange & blue one. The hat, that is.) After taking a guitar building course he discovered that his heart & hands liked carving wood. Wanting to make some wooden birthday gifts, he carved a few wooden spoons & burnt some designs on them. It so happened that those people liked them. & he just so happened to like making them. He continues to make everything from the smallest salt spoon to large stir-fry paddles.

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Burnt Wood Makery

My name is joel kroeker & i like to make things. I worked with fibre & fabric for many years, but my new obsession is wood. After taking a guitar building course i discovered that my heart & my hands liked carving wood. Experimenting with different ideas i zeroed in on spoons & other small carved items. The spoons i make are often organic in design, following the contour & grain of the particular piece being carved. Being an avid doodler, i also enjoy incorporating patterns using wood burning. & there you have the story behind the name:
Burnt Wood Makery.
