Vendor Profile: Lone Tree Handcrafted

My love for nature and desire to create was the push behind Lone Tree Handcrafted. I am dedicated to creating quality, long lasting, sustainable products for the home and kitchen. These cutting boards, serving boards, spoons and spreading knives are designed and created for everyday use, but also serve as true pieces of art for the kitchen. Lone Tree prides itself on the fact that each product is different and unique. Each piece has been diligently handmade to create a one of kind piece. I am inspired by the character and beauty hidden among what many may see as imperfections and I use that to dictate the outcome of each item I craft. As they are used, I believe that character and beauty is gained. All handcrafted products are treated with an all-natural finish made with locally sourced beeswax. Through Lone Tree, I enjoy being able to share my designs and products with family, friends, as well as the community and beyond. You can find me on instagram @lonetreehc or online www.lonetreehandcrafted.com

Vendor Profile: Lone Tree Handcrafted

My love for nature and desire to create have led me to start Lone Tree Handcrafted. I have dedicated Lone Tree to creating quality, long lasting, sustainable, cutting boards. I believe there is character and beauty hidden among what many may see as imperfections and I use that to inspire the outcome of each board. Lone Tree prides itself on the fact that each cutting board is unique - no two boards are the same. Throughout the process, great care and attention to detail is taken. From salvaging wood, to spending hours carving, shaping, and hand sanding. The boards are then treated with a homemade, all natural, finish made with local beeswax.
It's been great being able to share my designs and kitchen table with family and friends and I look forward to sharing my products with the community.

Vendor Profile: Burntwood Makery

I've always loved making things, says joel kroeker, proprietor of burntwood makery, "whether it's bread, toques, songs, or spoons." Growing up the oldest of four imaginative & energetic brothers, joel was always encouraged to express that creativity. Kroeker works at The Night Oven Bakery in Saskatoon & lives in the City Park area with his partner, Heather, & their ten-month-old daughter, Rehema. Saskatchewan-based burntwood makery has, for the last four years, been mainly focussing on crafting wooden utensils for cooking and eating. Burntwood utensils are hand-shaped from reclaimed and found woods of North American origin. The one-of-kind pyrographic designs and sculptural aspects of each piece are intended to celebrate and elevate the joy of using these everyday tools. This spring, in addition to offering his popular spoons & utensils, burntwood makery will be branching out into the realms of home & garden decor. Wooden buntings & decorative—& practical!—garden row labels will be available to brighten up your home & yard.

Vendor Profile: Matthew Maker

I am Matthew Maker. Carpenter by day, creator of beautiful handmade cutting boards and other wooden accessories by night.

Through the process of hand selecting the wood that goes into my projects and a keen eye for detail, every piece becomes unique with no two being exactly the same. Working with both domestic and exotic species of wood allows for patterns and colours that are only limited by nature itself.

This is not factory production, this is craftsmanship.

vendor profile: Cherry Tree Woodworks

I have always had an interest in woodworking. I am self taught and have never taken a lesson or course for woodworking. I used to love watching New Yankee Workshop on TV and seeing him create things from just a few boards of lumber and wanting to do it myself. For about 7 years I built custom cabinetry but now I am building what I really love. Small items such as jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, cutting boards, charcuterie boards and furniture all made out of solid hardwoods. Everything I build is inspired by the wood itself and if there is a unique feature about a piece of wood I make sure that it is seen because that is what makes each piece I make different from the next. Almost everything I make is finished in a clear finish because that is the way nature intended the wood to look and I want to keep the natural beauty or the wood front and center.

vendor profile: Oleson Woodshop

Purpose evolves from the strangest of places. While preparing a Toast to the Groom for a close friend, I needed a project to distract from the writing process. Seeing a dining table on the wedding registry, I was reminded of how important my own kitchen table was in my family growing up, and the importance of gathering places in our homes. Wishing the same memories for my friends, the challenge was set.

When the wedding day came, the table was finished, created from the desire to craft something truly beautiful that would last a lifetime of family and adventures. As for the speech, it recalled the onerous task of joining together two pieces of wood, not so perfectly, to create a strong bond.

Building that table became a calling to craft unique pieces that tell the story of the lives they are made for. Every piece from Oleson Woodshop comes from that feeling of gathering with my own family around that old kitchen table, slowly figuring out how to create a life of passion, not always so perfectly, but, much like that first table, one worth the hard work and dedication.

Oleson Woodshop strives to create functional art through fine furniture, home decor, and kitchen accessories. Calling on the traditional methods of wood joinery, we hope to build upon the structure created by craftspeople throughout history.
