Springtime Handmade Market Wrap-Up

Our incredible Springtime Handmade Market line-up of vendors brought in over 1700 shoppers. The success of the event is attributed to the quality of workmanship that our vendors bring, the volunteers who organize and help us run the event, and all the lovely people who continue to support our handmade community. THANK YOU!

We hope you smile as you reflect on these moments captured by Maki Fotos. Stay tuned for news regarding the next market!

Vendor Profile: Uncle Mike's All Natural Products

Uncle Mike’s All Natural Products began in 2009 when, as a climber, I needed a salve to strengthen and repair my dry and damaged hands. I started researching natural oils and the healing powers of essential oils. As I read and learned about their powerful natural properties, I wanted to experiment and create other products. This led to numerous experiments in the kitchen and a collection of products. As word spread, I began to hand out samples to friends and family. It didn’t take long before my friends and family were spreading the word and I was receiving requests for a natural replacement for other everyday products. After salve came deodorant, then toothpaste and soap, shampoo, laundry soap, aftershave, muscle mud, perfumes, room deodorizers, incense, and the list keeps growing!

While I feel I have perfected many of my products, I continue to enjoy the artistic and scientific aspect of creating new products and new blends and will always be in the process of creating the next new natural alternative. All of my products are hand made in small batches using only steam distilled essential oils and cold pressed vegetable oils. No synthetic colours, fragrances or additives so that you get the purest most natural product.

You can always find a full selection of products at unclemikesnatural.com and stay up to date with my adventures and new products by following me on Instagram (unclemikesnatural) Twitter (@umnatural), and my Facebook (Uncle Mike's All Natural Products).

Vendor Profile: Three Leaf Apparel

I've been crocheting for almost half my life now but Three Leaf Apparel was officially created in 2011 after the birth of my first child.  She was tiny and she needed some hats and booties that fit her well enough to keep her warm.  (I still have a cut out for the sole of a bootie template that I used for her - it was smaller that a newborn size so I wrote "Hannah size" on it.)  Since then, the business has changed and evolved and now here I am, three kids later, and still loving what I do.  While I mostly crochet, I do have some knit pieces and some that I've sewn.  Always loving a challenge, I generally don't use a pattern to make my items - while it might take a little longer to figure out, it also gives me a great sense of accomplishment to see a picture of something and then allow it to inspire me to create my own.  In an attempt to be able to recreate some of the same items, have several notebooks strewn throughout my house with notes on what I did so that I can remember the pattern and hopefully make a few more!

If you would like to keep up with Three Leaf and my ever changing product, please visit my etsy shop, Facebook and instagram.

Vendor Profile: just sewing

I began playing with fabric on my grandmother’s sewing machine when I was a little girl and still use her vintage machine today. For over ten years I have been passionate about quilting--combining fabrics in both traditional and modern patterns. I believe that fabric is inspiring and a powerful design tool. Whether it's a baby blanket in a nursery, a mini quilt hanging on the wall, a cushion on your favourite chair, a tea towel hanging on the oven handle, or a quilt thrown over the back of the couch, fabrics bring life to our homes. I only hope to share my love of fabrics and all that they can create.
