Springtime Handmade Market Vendor Profile: Kalika Bowlby Pottery

I am a contemporary potter, living and working in Nelson, BC, Canada. I create one of a kind wheel thrown and hand built ceramics inspired by mid century modern design and architecture, African textiles, traditional Japanese ceramics as well as the preparing and sharing of food. My time in the studio is an extension of the time I spend in the garden and the kitchen. Growing, preparing and sharing food with love and attention is a way for me to celebrate, connect and nourish myself and those around me. The objects I make are another way to nourish and celebrate, adornment for the table and the food, delighting all of the senses at each meal. I hope these items can bring more joy and goodness to the meals and lives of others.

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Carole Epp

I'm inspired by the chaos, the noise, the blur, the wonder, and the creativity of life with two small boys at home. I started making dishes for my first son as an aside to the functional pottery I was already making and now years later it plays a huge part of my studio practice. I love that these storybook images can insight smiles and memories for young and old alike.

Each piece is one of a kind, made by hand, and fired at my home studio. Each drawing is unique although some times I do a run of a series of a similar image. Every part of the process is handmade by me.

The dishes are 100% food safe, microwave safe and safe for the dishwasher - although handmade dishes do tend to live longer lives if they are handwashed with care.

Of course you can still find her work on Broadway at the Better Good. But this will be a great opportunity to pick up some new work or old stock and seconds in both dishes and jewllery.
