Springtime Handmade Market Vendor Profile: Carole Epp

Within the whirlwind of a busy life with two young children, my functional ceramics have evolved from a past of formal inquiries and technical explorations towards more contemporary narrative representations and whimsy. From books and their elaborate illustrative art, to my children’s drawings and imaginations I find inspiration all around me. The reward of this work for me is that young and old find happiness though the work and its engagement with nostalgia and familiar imagery.

I'm looking forward to another amazing weekend at flock & gather and am thankful to be a part of the collective that makes these events happen. I'm most thankful though to the community here in Saskatoon that has been so supportive in their embrace of the handmade and the value in supporting local makers.

See you Friday!

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Carole Epp

I'm inspired by the chaos, the noise, the blur, the wonder, and the creativity of life with two small boys at home. I started making dishes for my first son as an aside to the functional pottery I was already making and now years later it plays a huge part of my studio practice. I love that these storybook images can insight smiles and memories for young and old alike.

Each piece is one of a kind, made by hand, and fired at my home studio. Each drawing is unique although some times I do a run of a series of a similar image. Every part of the process is handmade by me.

The dishes are 100% food safe, microwave safe and safe for the dishwasher - although handmade dishes do tend to live longer lives if they are handwashed with care.

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Carole Epp of the untrained eye

I'm a mom to two silly little boys, a wife to a bike builder extraordinaire, a blogger, an artist, and a passionate believer in the value of the handmade. I make functional pottery for the wee ones and the young at heart. Each piece is unique and tells a story. I love the imagery of the children's literature i'm surrounded with daily and I aim to bring out some of that whimsy and fun in my work. More than anything I simply hope that what I do might cause someone to smile.

Carole Epp - the untrained eye

Carole Epp is a full time mother to two lovely boys, an "I want to be full time but can't be right now" ceramic artist, a seamstress, an occasional painter and a daily blog editor. Her ceramics branch off into two distinct bodies of work wherein she produces lines of sculptural and functional objects.

Since her husband bought her a sewing machine four years ago she has been producing textile work as well. Addicted to the bright colors and patterns of contemporary fabrics she makes non-traditional quilts and accessories for kids.
