Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Boolah Baguette

Boolah Baguette is the imagination of Erin Weiss in the form of some very sweet dolls...

I just can't help myself, I have to make cute things. I love that my work is also my play and that every time I make a doll it surprises me a little. I love the heart-skippy feeling of pulling the right materials for the perfect creature...seeing it come together and then just barely being able to handle (because it makes me so happy!) the cute pile of finished dolls who camp out in my sewing room.
The dolls are each one a kind, made from every fabric that inspires me, and with hand stitched details, tiny clothes, and little personalities all their own. 
I hope these dolls get tucked into beds with sleepy kids, toted around in the basket of a bike, and dragged everywhere by one arm.  And I hope that every sweet soul, of any age, who has one for themselves...well, that they make you happy just by being around (and be sure to give a squeeze every once in a while!)

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Walden Sweet

Well here we are!
With our feet planted on the ground, consuming plenty of coffee and having numerous conversations over and about our love and appreciation for handmade markets and vendors. We are the Walden Sweet.

 

Our free time is spent dreaming, designing, sewing, and printing. When we are not doing this we are bike riding, camping, and spending time with our two cats, Ninja and Jackson!
Our wares include screen printed posters, pillowcases, hankies, and kitty toys!
We look forward to the Winter Wonders Market, listening to music, eating, tending our goods, spending quality time with our friends and of course welcoming you!

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Carole Epp

I'm inspired by the chaos, the noise, the blur, the wonder, and the creativity of life with two small boys at home. I started making dishes for my first son as an aside to the functional pottery I was already making and now years later it plays a huge part of my studio practice. I love that these storybook images can insight smiles and memories for young and old alike.

Each piece is one of a kind, made by hand, and fired at my home studio. Each drawing is unique although some times I do a run of a series of a similar image. Every part of the process is handmade by me.

The dishes are 100% food safe, microwave safe and safe for the dishwasher - although handmade dishes do tend to live longer lives if they are handwashed with care.

JF and Bill have been working together on and off for more than 5 years.  They collaborated in restaurants, catering weddings, private parties, they’ve done it all.  Creative, with a respect for the classics, their vision is one of simple, honest, clean, tong and cheeks food. It’s always been about making the food they wanted to eat and trying to make it to the best of their abilities.

SalgadoFenwick Is made up of two ladies Shauna Force & Linda Ritter. We have come together to share our art on wearable garments and home wear. We hand draw all of our art works, they are limited editions. We enjoy the creative drive of creating new works of art though out the year. We also have our own print shop so we hand print the images. Mixing our own ink by hand to get specialty colours, to enhance our own unique look in the finished product. We also hand sewing all the extra home collection. Our collections are inspired by nature and telling stories in our art is what we love.

Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Hoakon + Helga

I have a love for the past and its romanticism. Because of this I named Hoakon + Helga after my Norwegian Grandparents.

Hoakon + Helga creates one of a kind handmade handbags using vintage leather jackets. No two will ever be the same. We carefully hand select jackets at local thrift stores based on their leather quality, color, shape and pocket detail. The process of creating your bag is a meticulous one, a lot of love and care goes in to each step.

Though the bag silhouettes are similar, each one takes on its own set of visual characteristics due to the nature of the initial recycled vintage jacket. Each one is different in color, shape and pocket design. The result is a bag that each owner can call one of a kind.

WHO IS THE HOAKON + HELGA GIRL?

We like to think of her as the modern day bohemian. One who loves the idea of combining vintage and new items in her wardrobe. She listens to old records, rides her bike wherever she can, loves to enjoy the simple pleasures in life like tea on a sunny morning, and the smell of cookies baking in the oven. She is one that knows who she is and that beauty lies in all facets of her and her life.




ABOUT ANDI

Andi grew up spending lots of time in her mother’s antique store. This gave her a love of the past and an interest in collecting vintage. She started going to thrift stores at an early age hunting for clothes, and as soon as she was able to move out on her own, her apartment quickly became furnished with treasures she’d collect on her thrifting adventures.

Andi started designing bags while she was in art school achieving her Fine Arts degree. Andi majored in textiles and quickly developed a passion for dyeing fabrics, screenprinting and sewing the materials she’d create in to handbags.
Shortly after graduating, she opened up her first online store on Etsy showcasing her one of a kind creations. This shop quickly became her full time job as her bags developed a following. An extensive amount of repeat customers covet and collect her bags based on quality and style that she offers.

Now, nearly 5 years later, Andi has a downtown studio space outside of her apartment with the most amazing daylight. From her humble beginnings of selling bags in art school to now, the passion and excitement still resides. Her latest passion Made By Andi, is her business blog – Here she shares with other handmade business owners tips and tricks that she’s learned along the way. When she’s not working in the studio or blogging, you can find her at thrift stores looking for old kitchen items and brass deer ornaments. She’s a bike rider, tea drinker, beet juice maker, and lover of old Hitchcock movies.
