Winter Wonders Artisan Profile: Made by Magic

I began Made by Magic four years ago as a hobby and creative outlet. Since then, my designs and style have developed into a steampunk inspired collection of necklaces, rings, and bracelets. I love diving into old jewellery boxes and forgotten drawers to find inspiration for my pieces! Many of my designs include gears and vintage watch movements, as well as other odds and ends that I dust off and incorporate into my jewellery. Each piece I create has it's own unique history and is completely one of a kind!

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Sidewise Designs

My name is Dj Siminoff and I never leave the house without a hat. Saskatchewan weather is very unpredictable, so you never know when you might need protection from the elements, right? As a designer, all of my bags are created with the same sense of practicality... and a steadfast refusal to sew curved lines! I've been sewing since I was too little to use the grown-up scissors, and designing and selling my own bags for over 4 years.

Months of planning, preparation and prototypes has lead to the launch of Sidewise Designs, a new line of bags that is the perfect balance between my perfectionist tendencies and my uncontrollable creativity.

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Jessica Wynne Designs

I am a massage therapist turned stay at home mom of a seven month old baby girl. I have always made jewellery but began using metal and wire when I decided to make jewellery for my wedding. I haven't looked back since! I use copper primarily, but also like sterling silver and brass. I also make feather earring and have recently been experimenting with leather. I have really enjoyed the flock and gather markets I have participated in in the past and am looking forward to being a part of future markets as well!

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Andronyk Jewelry

Andronyk Jewelry is years in the making. I've been handcrafting jewelry for a long time; I first started in a bead shop, then as bench assistant to an Edmonton jewelry artist, and that was when I knew what I wanted to do. I finally enrolled at the Vancouver Metal Art School where I studied with a German Master Goldsmith. I use Traditional European Goldsmithing techniques as well as my own design vision to create interesting and unique works.

Working with design elements, experimenting with techniques and drawing from my favorite inspiration, science fiction and robotics, I continually create items that speak to that aesthetic. I'm inspired by futurism, the singularity, ufos, fantasy worlds, and La Planete Sauvage. I use only high quality materials in my work such as sterling silver, gold, and handpicked precious/semi precious stones that speak to me.

Spring Market Vendor Profile: Karlie King and Jay Kimball

Karlie King:

I'm a multimedia artist living in Mervin, SK. At Flock & Gather's Spring Market I will be showcasing some of my ceramic tiles from a series entitled "Buttons, Baking, & the Backyard," which was exhibited at Chapel Gallery in North Battleford, SK (2011) and soon to be exhibited at the Campbell River Art Gallery, BC (Summer 2013). The impetus for these tiles was a coming to terms with a new way of working artistically. As mother of two, I no longer have the luxury of of solitary art-time or a controlled environment. I am never alone and my environment is a pleasant state of chaos determined by buttons, baking, and the backyard. Therefore, these tiles are layered impressions of my life: both literally and metaphorically. The layers are comprised of buttons, items required for baking, and things found in the backyard (be it stuff from the garden, a close-pin that fell off the line, or a golf ball that never quite made it back in the bag).

Jay Kimball is a full time award winning ceramic artist and art educator. He produces artworks that live in the space between Art, Craft, and Design. He creates functional and non-functional ceramics focused on texture, colour, and balance. He work is collected nationally, and he is presently the Artist-in-Residence at Last Mountain Lake Cultural Centre.

He is the co-proprietor of Flux Fine Art Studio in Mervin, SK with his partner Karlie King. And he is a proud father of Sophie (4) and Reuben (2).

Spring Market Artisan Profile: Walden Sweet Design

We love to make pretty things. We love to screen print. What could be better than that.

"I took a shower washing every body part with actual soap; including all my major crevices; including in between my toes and in my belly button, which I never did before but sort of enjoyed. I washed my hair with adult formula shampoo and used cream rinse for that just washed shine. I can't seem to find my toothbrush, so I'll pick one up when I go out today. Other than that, I'm in good shape."
-quote from the film Home Alone
